2 ex-guerillas tell of abductions

BOGOTA, June 17 (UPI) -- Two former members of the Colombian guerrilla army accused of kidnapping four Chinese oil workers came forward with information, officials said.

Defense Minister Rodrigo Rivera said the two had been members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, Caracol Radio reported Friday.

There were no details on the status of the kidnapped men.

The ex-members said FARC -- the group's Spanish acronym -- allegedly abducted the workers in order to collect ransom payments, officials said.

Both men were from the Teofilo Forero mobile unit that operates in the southern region where the kidnapping took place.

The Chinese oil workers, who belong to Sinochem oil company, were kidnapped last week. A group of armed men blocked a road and took them hostage.
