Death toll in Indonesia eruption at 161

JAKARTA, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- The death toll in the eruption of Indonesia's Mount Merapi volcano has reached 161, officials said Friday.

Of the 161 dead victims, 37 died when the volcano first erupted last month and 124 died in a subsequent eruption Nov. 5, Antara News reported.

Trisno Heru Nugroho, a spokesman for the Sardjito Hospital in Yogyakarta, said 91 people injured in the eruptions were still being treated.

Mount Merapi is located on the border between Central Java and Yogyakarta and is the most active volcano in Indonesia.
