Slain Florida couple had two safes at home

PENSACOLA, Fla., July 22 (UPI) -- A safe found in the Florida home of Byrd and Melanie Billings contained $100,000 in cash, a source familiar with the investigation of their slaying says.

The source told CNN that the safe with money was one of two belonging to the slain couple that adopted 13 special needs children.

The source said the suspects arrested for the killings knew about the safe but were unable to get into it.

Florida authorities have confirmed that a safe containing prescription medication, family documents and some jewelry was taken from the Billings home at the time of the killings.

However, Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan would not confirm the existence of a second safe, CNN reported.

In another development, one of the suspects told police a man he knew only as "Pat," believed to be the organizer of the July 9 home invasion-robbery, was the lone gunman, court documents indicate.
