SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- House speaker Nancy Pelosi has accepted an invitation to meet with the Catholic archbishop of San Francisco to discuss her receiving communion.

The Politico said Monday the California Democrat sent a hand-delivered response to Archbishop George Niederauer who had invited her to a face-to-face meeting to address concerns among Catholics about her views on abortion and whether she is qualified to continue receiving communion.

Politico said the exchanges have been cordial and that Pelosi said in her letter sent last Friday that she looked forward to "the opportunity for our personal conversation and to go beyond our earlier most cordial exchange about immigration and needs of the poor to Church teaching on other significant matters."

A date for the meeting has not been set.
