LONDON, April 17 (UPI) -- A British court delivered a guilty verdict Thursday against a Muslim activist charged with inciting terrorism and fundraising for terrorist purposes.
Abu Izzadeen, also known as Omar Brooks, was the sixth defendant convicted out of a group of eight charged with supporting terrorism.
The Kingston Crown Court judge ordered the six to return Friday for sentencing, according to Sky News.
Izzadeen and the other defendants were arrested on charges stemming from a 2004 rally at a Regent's Park mosque in which the speakers called on the crowd to join insurgents battling U.S. and British forces in Iraq.
"What occurred was that these eight men delivered or contributed to a series of speeches and appeals for money, and in the case of five of the defendants, for volunteers to join in the fight against coalition troops," said prosecutor Jonathan Laidlaw. "The speeches became progressively more emotive and inflammatory and insulting in their tone."
