LONDON, March 31 (UPI) -- There is no evidence Prince Philip ordered the assassination of England's Princess Diana, the lead coroner at her inquest said.
"There is no evidence that the Duke of Edinburgh ordered Diana's execution and there is no evidence that the secret intelligence service or any other government agency organized it," said Scott Baker, the coroner at the inquest examining the death of Princess Diana and her lover, Dodi Fayed, in a car crash.
Baker told the jury simply that the accident in Paris in August 2007 was due to the harassment by the paparazzi and the negligence of their driver, Henri Paul, the BBC reported Monday.
Mohamed Fayed, Dodi's father and the owner of the Harrods department store, laid out conspiracy theories that the deaths were part of a broader plot against the pair.
But Baker insisted the conspiracy theories were "so demonstrably without foundation" they didn't warrant pursuit, the BBC said.
