LOS ANGELES, Nov. 24 (UPI) -- Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has ended his controversial affair with news TV reporter Mirthala Salinas, The Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.
Citing anonymous sources, the newspaper said Villaraigosa and Salinas ended their relationship this fall so Villaraigosa could focus primarily on his children. Corina Villaraigosa has filed for divorce from the mayor.
The couple separated several weeks before Villaraigosa publicly confirmed he had been having an affair with Salinas.
The mayor's public confession prompted Telemundo to suspend Salinas and eventually reassign her from a desirable desk in Los Angeles to a remote bureau. She soon resigned.
The affair led to allegations that Villaraigosa provided Salinas with inside information and allowed the relationship to affect his work, the newspaper said.
