Reporter sues LA for rough treatment

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- A Los Angeles television reporter is suing the city after she was pushed against a cargo container while pursuing the mayor.

Alicia Unger, 40, of Azteca America, a Spanish-language network, claimed Port Police Sgt. Kevin McCloskey used excessive force against her when he blocked her pursuit of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, The Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

The reporter’s claim said she was traumatized and required medical treatment after she was slammed into the steel container.

McCloskey has been reassigned to administrative duties, and the city has 45 days to respond to the legal claim, the Times said.

Unger and several other reporters were chasing the mayor after he refused to comment on the suspension of his girlfriend, Mirthala Salinas, from her job at Telemundo KVEA, another local Spanish-language station.
