Mellon: Ex-husband 'childlike'

LONDON, May 3 (UPI) -- Tamara Mellon, head of the Jimmy Choo shoe company and ex-wife of the heir to a U.S. fortune, told a London court Thursday her former husband is like a child.

She said Matthew Mellon is so absent-minded she did not like to leave their young daughter alone with him, The (London) Telegraph reported.

"A day doesn't go by when Matthew doesn't lose his keys, his mobile (cell phone) or even his wallet," she said.

Matthew Mellon is charged with hiring a detective agency to hack into his wife's computer during their divorce. His defense is that he did not realize the company would use illegal methods to get information.

Tamara Mellon, who told the court her husband "can't even read a comic book, let alone a legal document," appeared to support his story. She also described him as "sweet," "childlike" and her "best friend."

The couple met at a Narcotics Anonymous meeting. Tamara Mellon, a former Vogue writer who helped Jimmy Choo create his fashion empire, came into court wearing a pair of $4,000 Jimmy Choo shoes with 4-inch heels and carrying a snakeskin bag.
