Bush decries Va. Tech shooting

WASHINGTON, April 16 (UPI) -- U.S. President George Bush pledged his administration will "do everything possible" to help in the investigation of the shootings at Virginia Tech University.

A gunman opened fire at a dorm and in the engineering building at the Blacksburg, Va., campus, killing more than 30 and injuring some two dozen more, in the worst mass shooting at a U.S. school.

"We are praying for the victims and their families and all the members of the university community," Bush said. "My administration will do everything possible to assist with the investigation. ...

"Schools should be places of safety, sanctuary and learning." Bush said people feel violated after an incident like this, with an impact on "every American classroom and community."
