Abdullah: Golden opportunity for Palestine

AMMAN, Jordan, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- King Abdullah of Jordan said a new Palestinian unity government must recognize Israel.

The king said on Israel's Channel 2 TV that it's time for Israel to be "fully integrated into the neighborhood," CNN reported Sunday.

He said diplomacy in the Middle East now has its last opportunity to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian dispute.

"I think the circumstances in the Middle East have changed so much that really this is our last opportunity. We have all this momentum moving in the right direction at the moment," Abdullah told the Israeli TV interview.

"This is the golden opportunity that is in front of all of us," Abdullah said.

Abdullah said the new unity government must abide by the demands of the Mideast Quartet -- the United States, the European Union, Russia and the United Nations. Their demands include recognizing Israel and renouncing violence.
