Child dies of Christmas parade injuries

NEW ORLEANS, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- A 9-year-old Louisiana girl has died of injuries she suffered when she was run over by a trailer during a Christmas parade.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune said Savannah Scharfenstein was taken off life support Tuesday at Children's Hospital in New Orleans.

She was run over by a utility trailer pulled by a pickup truck Sunday afternoon at a Christmas parade hosted by the Slidell, La., fire department.

Police said the girl was trying to climb onto the slow-moving trailer when one of the tires ran over her foot and pulled her to the pavement.
