Iran briefs Saudis on nuclear activities

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, June 13 (UPI) -- Iran's Supreme National Security Council chief Hassan Rohani said he has assured the Saudi leadership of the peaceful nature of his country's nuclear activity.

Speaking at the end of an official visit to Saudi Arabia late Sunday night, Rohani said he briefed Crown Prince Abdullah on Iran's nuclear program and its objectives, stressing that "our nuclear activities are peaceful and do not affect the environment and our neighbors."

He added, "We were keen on exposing that issue with clarity and transparency to the Saudi leadership, and we clarified the objectives of the nuclear program."

He said his discussions with Saudi officials also covered bilateral relations and cooperation on security matters, notably the combating of terrorism.

Rohani's visit to Saudi Arabia was part of a tour in the area that took him to Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
