Protesters demand Spokane mayor quit

SPOKANE, Wash., May 28 (UPI) -- About 50 people gathered outside the city hall Friday in Spokane, Wash., to call for the mayor's resignation.

Jim West has refused to step down amidst allegations that he has fondled boys and trolled for young sexual companions on the Internet.

The Spokane Spokesman-Review says that the protest was launched a few days ago by Tom Terry, a truck driver for Spokane County. Terry called the radio program hosted by former Los Angeles detective Mark Fuhrman, who became notorious during the O.J. Simpson trial, said he was angry about West and that he planned to be in front of city hall on Friday to show his displeasure.

Debbie Brown told the newspaper that the scandal is breaking her heart.

"The man has no character," she said. "If he had character, he would step down."
