Speaker Hastert beefs up press staff

WASHINGTON, April 4 (UPI) -- U.S. House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., announced major changes to his public affairs team Monday, including a new chief speechwriter.

Janelle Carter, formerly of U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole's, R-N.C., staff will now head up the speechwriting team for Hastert. Carter was most recently employed at the Commerce Department where she was deputy director of speechwriting for former Secretary Don Evans.

Also joining Hastert's communications team is Lisa Camooso Miller, who has been named deputy communications director. Formerly the Commerce Department's deputy director of public affairs, Miller once served as a special assistant to former Acting New Jersey Gov. Donny DiFrancesco.

Hastert's office also announced Larry Farnsworth, who had been the speaker's speechwriter, has been promoted to deputy press secretary.
