Lebanon upset with Israeli border shooting

JERUSALEM, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- The bodies of the two armed Lebanese who crossed the border into Israeli territory Tuesday have been returned to Lebanon by the United Nations.

The Jerusalem Post said it was still not known Wednesday whether the men were hunters or had tried to infiltrate Israel to initiate a terror attack.

Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and President Emil Lahoud condemned the shootings, Lahoud calling it a serious escalation of tensions in the area, and Lebanon lodging a complaint with the United Nations.

In a separate incident Tuesday, the Post said Israeli Defense Force soldiers discovered a string of road-side bombs planted near the border on the Lebanese side -- apparently with the intention of being detonated alongside IDF troops at a later time.
