Search for L.A. cop killer nets 22 arrests

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- An overnight dragnet in the San Fernando Valley resulted in 22 arrests, but no sign of a suspect in the slaying of a Burbank police officer.

Police said David Garcia, 19, remained at large Thursday after the operation that resulted in 22 people being detained. Garcia's mother and twin brother were among 14 held on charges of harboring a fugitive while eight others were taken into custody on drug or weapons charges.

The arrests were carried out by a convoy of well-armed Los Angeles police SWAT officers who descended in force on a neighborhood in the suburban community of Sun Valley Wednesday night.

Garcia has been on the run since Saturday night when he and an accomplice allegedly shot it out with two Burbank officers, wounding one and killing rookie Matthew Pavelka.

Police said Garcia, whose accomplice was killed, has connections to a North Hollywood street gang.
