NHL: Dallas 4, Minnesota 1

DALLAS, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Tom Wandell opened and closed the scoring Friday in boosting the Dallas Stars to their third straight win, 4-1 over Minnesota.

The Stars have won three in a row for the first time since early December and moved into eighth place by themselves in the Western Conference playoff race. Dallas began the game tied with Calgary and Los Angeles for the conference's final post-season berth.

Wandell scored 8:48 into the game and then delivered an empty-net goal with 53 seconds remaining in the third period.

Loui Eriksson added a first-period goal for Dallas and Eric Nystrom scored in the second to put the Stars in control.

The only Minnesota goal came from Devin Setoguchi on the power play with 7:17 remaining.

Kari Lehtonen made 28 saves for the Stars. Nicklas Backstrom gave up three goals on 14 shots before giving way to Matt Hackett.
