MLB: Tampa Bay 6, Toronto 1

TORONTO, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Evan Longoria hit two of Tampa Bay's four home runs Friday and James Shields threw his 10th complete game this year to bring Tampa Bay a 6-1 win over Toronto.

Shields (12-10) leads the majors with his 10 complete games, having thrown just five of them in his previous five years. He allowed the lone Toronto run on seven hits and struck out 12.

Tampa Bay overcame an early 1-0 deficit on a two-run shot by Desmond Jennings in the second. Longoria then came through with solo homers in both the fourth and sixth, boosting his total for the season to 24, and John Jaso added a solo clout in the seventh.

Only four active pitchers other than Shields have had at least nine complete games in a season -- Roy Halladay, Livan Hernandez, CC Sabathia and Bartolo Colon. Halladay has done it four times and Hernandez twice.

Shields continued an outstanding streak of pitching for the Rays. Tampa Bay has had 11 straight starts of at least seven innings, the longest such streak in the majors in eight years.

Henderson Alvarez (0-2) gave up four runs on four hits over six innings to take the loss, the fifth in seven games for the Blue Jays.
