Braves-Mets games postponed by storm

NEW YORK, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Hurricane Irene's expected effect on the New York area led officials to postpone games Saturday and Sunday between the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg ordered the city's mass transit system shut down beginning at noon EDT Saturday. He also ordered evacuations for some sections of the city.

The Braves and Mets were to have played a three-game series but only the Friday game was still on.

The postponed games are to be made up Sept. 8 as part of a single-admission doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to begin at 4:10 p.m. EDT.
