NHL: San Jose 5, Nashville 4

NASHVILLE, April 12 (UPI) -- Patrick Rissmiller scored 8:14 into the second overtime Wednesday to give San Jose a 5-4 win over Nashville in Game 1 of the Western Conference quarterfinals.

Patrick Marleau chipped a pass from the left point to the low left circle where Rissmiller received the pass with his back to the puck and quickly lifted it over the right shoulder of Tomas Vokoun for the win.

Rissmiller, Craig Rivet and Mike Grier each had a goal and an assist for the Sharks, who are looking to knock off Nashville in the first round for the second straight season. Matthew Carle and Milan Michalek accounted for the Sharks' other goals.

Evgeni Nabokov finished the game with 39 saves.

J.P. Dumont and Alexander Radulov each scored two goals for the Predators, who played in their first postseason overtime game. Vokoun stopped 33 shots in the game.

Game 2 of the series will be played on Friday night in Nashville.

San Jose's win came at a cost, however, as Jonathan Cheechoo left the game with a knee injury. San Jose coach Ron Wilson said Cheechoo would get an MRI Thursday and his status for Game 2 was uncertain.
