United States in lead at UBS Cup

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C., Nov. 20 (UPI) -- The United States won four points in Saturday's fourball format Saturday for a 6 1/2 - 5 1/2 lead over the Rest of the World after day two of the UBS Cup.

In the anchor match, Colin Montgomerie and Bernhard Langer defeated Fred Funk and Hale Irwin, 2 & 1.

In the captains' battle, Americans Arnold Palmer and Jay Haas halved Rest of the World captain Gary Player and Mark McNulty for the second straight time.

Craig Stadler and Tom Kite halved the second match with 2002 European Ryder Cup captain Sam Torrance and Barry Lane.

Americans Tom Watson and Hal Sutton beat Rodger Davis and Peter Senior, 4 & 2. Scott Hoch and Curtis Strange gave the U.S. another full point when they beat Carl Mason and John Chillas, 2 & 1.

Raymond Floyd and Fred Couples defeated Ian Woosnam and Sandy Lyle, 4 & 2.
