Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Britain's Sky Atlantic has released the first glimpse of Benedict Cumberbatch as the title character in its new limited series Patrick Melrose.

"Meet your new favourite troubled aristocratic playboy. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Hugo Weaving & Jennifer Jason Leigh, #PatrickMelrose is coming soon. #PleasedToMeetYou," the British broadcaster tweeted Thursday.

The one-minute preview shows the Sherlock alum drinking heavily and taking part in a group therapy session.

Leigh and Weaving play Patrick's parents, while Anna Madeley plays his wife.

David Nicholls wrote all five episodes of the television adaptation of Edward St. Aubyn's novels and Edward Berger directed the program.

Showtime, which will air the series in the United States, described it in a news release as a story that "hilariously skewers the upper class as it tracks the protagonist's harrowing odyssey from a deeply traumatic childhood through adult substance abuse and, ultimately, toward recovery."
