Frank Bonner, 'WKRP in Cincinnati' star, dead at 79

June 18 (UPI) -- Frank Bonner, the actor best known for portraying sales manager Herb Tarlek on WRKP in Cincinnati, has died at the age of 79.

Bonner died Wednesday of complications from Lewy body dementia at his home in Laguna Niguel, Calif., his wife Gayle Hardage confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.

Bonner's daughter Desiree Boers-Kort also confirmed his death to CNN.

The actor appeared as Herb Tarlek on 88 episodes of WRKP in Cincinnati, which ran for four seasons on ABC from 1978 to 1982.

He also directed six episodes of the series and returned to star and direct episodes of reboot The New WKRP in Cincinnati, which ran for two seasons.

Bonner additionally starred in film Equinox, and as Father Hargis on Just the Ten of Us. Other television credits include appearances on Newhart, Night Court, Murder, She Wrote and more.

He continued to pursue directing and helmed episodes of Family Ties, Who's the Boss?, Head of the Class, Evening Shade, Harry and the Hendersons, Saved by the Bell: The New Class, where he also starred and 105 episodes of City Guys.

"He loved his fans and was still signing autographs requests up until the last few weeks of his illness. Thank you to all who followed his career. He will be forever missed," Boers-Kort said on Facebook.
