NASHVILLE, April 9 (UPI) -- Taylor Swift has revealed mom Andrea Finlay has cancer. The 25-year-old singer announced the news Thursday on Tumblr, but kept details about Finlay's condition vague to protect her mom's privacy. The 57-year-old homemaker discovered she has cancer after undergoing a routine checkup per Swift's request.

"For Christmas this year, I asked my mom that one of her gifts to me be her going to the doctor to get screened for any health issues, just to ease some worries of mine," the star shared. "The results came in, and I'm saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer."
"She wanted you to know why she may not be at as many shows this tour," she said of Finlay. "She's got an important battle to fight. Thank you for caring about my family so much that she would want me to share this information with you. I hope and pray that you never get news like this."
Swift included home movie footage of herself and her mom in her 2009 music video for "The Best Day." The singer released her fifth studio album, 1989, in October 2014, and will kick off an accompanying world tour May 5 in Tokyo.
