LOS ANGELES, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Former “Simple Life” star and party girl Nicole Richie spent 82 minutes in a Southern California jail Thursday for driving under the influence.
Richie had been sentenced to four days in jail after pleading no contest. Officials said her short stay Thursday in the Century Regional Detention Center was consistent with a federal court order to reduce overcrowding, The Los Angeles Times reported.
The California Highway Patrol pulled Richie over in December on a highway in Burbank. Officers said she admitted she had ingested marijuana and the painkiller Vicodin.
The jail where Richie was incarcerated from 3:15 p.m. to 4:37 p.m. is the same one where Paris Hilton, her co-star on “The Simple Life,” spent a brief time on a parole violation charge.
