May 24 (UPI) -- Torch Technologies Inc. has been awarded a contract by the Defense Department for services in support of the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command.

The contract, from U.S. Army Contracting Command, is valued at more than $71.8 million under the terms of a cost-plus-fixed-fee contract and enables Torch Technologies Inc. to provide advisory and assistance services Space and Missile Defense Command, the Pentagon said.

The U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command mission is to "conduct space and missile defense operations and provides planning, integration, control and coordination of Army forces and capabilities in support of U.S. Strategic Command missions," according to the U.S. Strategic Command.

Work on the contract will occur in Huntsville, Ala., and is expected to be complete in May 2023.

More than $39,315 will be obligated to Torch Technologies Inc. at time of award from fiscal 2018 research, development, test and evaluation funds, the Pentagon said.
