LM contracts Mercury for radar support

CHELMSFORD, Mass., Jan. 26 (UPI) -- U.S. company Lockheed Martin has contracted Mercury Computer Systems Inc. to support the development of a new military radar technology.

Massachusetts-based next-generation warfare technologies developer Mercury was awarded the contract from Lockheed Martin's Surface, Sea-based Missile Defense business unit.

Under the contract, Mercury will support Lockheed Martin's Scalable Solid State S-band Radar with its PowerStream 7000 computing density and bandwidth.

Lockheed Martin's S4R is being designed to support multiple naval missions including air surveillance, missile defense and target acquisition, among other applications.

"We're pleased to continue our strong relationship with Lockheed Martin, and to help bring their highly innovative radar system to production with digital beam-forming capability running on the most powerful embedded computer available," Didier Thibaud, Mercury Advanced Computing Solutions senior vice president and general manager, said in a statement.
