LINKOPING, Sweden, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Additional radio systems used by the U.S. Army in data communications for live training have been ordered from Saab Defense and Security USA LLC.
The order from the Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation to the Swedish company's U.S. subsidiary is worth $20 million, Saab said, but the number of units to be delivered and a delivery timetable were not disclosed.
The radio systems were ordered as part of the Army's Live Training Transformation Interim Range System, or LT2-IRS, contract, which was given to Saab is 2011. Under the contract and its options, the company is fielding communication network systems with more than 11,000 radios to "enable soldiers to engage in instrumented force-on-force training."
"This additional order is a further confirmation of our strong position as a long-term training partner to the U.S. armed forces, " said Lars Borgwing, president of Saab Defense and Security USA LLC. "Under LT2-IRS, Saab is providing a proven and future-proof data communication system that ties together the U.S. Army's existing instrumented training assets into an integrated end-to-end home station solution."
Saab said the radio systems will be manufactured in the United States and Sweden.
