Kongsberg gets new RWS order from Army

WASHINGTON, April 29 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has increased its recent weapon stations order with Kongsberg to continue supplying troops with a remotely controlled target acquisition system.

Norway's Kongsberg received the new order for its widely deployed Protector Remote Weapon Stations under its Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station agreement with the Army which stems from an August 2007 contract.

The $57 million order, which Kongsberg says demonstrates the ongoing confidence in its product, provides U.S. troops with a technology that keeps soldiers safely within the combat vehicle while remotely controlling the on-board weapons system to engage enemy targets.

The award follows a recent $209 million order for Protector RWS.
