FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Rick Cerone hit a grand slam and a solo home run to highlight a five-home run New York attack that powered the Yankees to a 15-10 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
Cerone, signed as a free agent by the Yankees as a backup catcher this winter, hit his grand slam during an eight-run fifth inning that put the Yankees ahead 14-4.
The White Sox came back with six runs in the sixth against Ron Romanick to pull within 14-10. Chicago got home runs from Russ Morman and Tom Forrester.
