It was Schliebener's first NHL goal.

Boston's Rick Middleton scored a pair of second-period goals, including a short handed marker at 12:43, to give the Bruins a 4-3 lead after 40 minutes.

Middleton scored with a Bruin in the penalty box after stealing the puck from Canuck defenseman Rick Lanz at the Boston blueline and raced the length of the ice, beating Canuck netminder Rick Caprice between the pads.

The teams traded power-play goals in the first period. Tanti opened the scoring for Vancouver at 7:51 and Barry Pederson replied for Boston.

Middleton had scored just 55 seconds into the period to give Boston a 2-1 lead. However, Tony Tanti's second goal of the game and another by Darcy Rota at 6:19 gave Vancouver a 3-2 lead.

Nevin Markwart tied the score 3-3 when he banked a shot in off Canuck defenseman Kevin McCarthy and past Caprice.
