Humphrey concedes to Nixon

Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey today sent the following telegram to Richard M. Nixon:

WASHINGTON, Nov. 7, 1968 (UPI) - Richard Milhous Nixon won his second try for President of the United States Wednesday, promised to work for domestic unity and world peace, and flew to Washington to pay his respects to former President Dwight D. EisenhoweIn the American political comeback of the century, the 55-year-old Mr. Nixon defeated Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey in a closely contested election that was not decided until his Democratic challenger conceded shortly after noon EST.
Caltech president named science adviser to Nixon
NEW YORK, Dec. 3, 1968 (UPI) - President-elect Richard M. Nixon, his administration beginning to take shape, today named as his chief science adviser Dr. Lee A. Dubridge, president of the California Institute of Technology.Dubridge, a renowned physicist and a long-time personal friend of Nixon, will retire from Caltech. He has met with Nixon several times to help map plans for scientific programs in his administration.
