Crowd outside hospital while RFK undergoes surgery
LOS ANGELES, June 5, 1968 (UPI) - About 300 persons crowded the entrance to Good Samaritan Hospital today while Sen. Robert F. Kennedy underwent surgery.Astronaut John Glenn, who had been accompanying Kennedy on his campaign trips, left the hospital shortly after dawn. He looked grim.
Washington shocked by Kennedy shooting
WASHINGTON, June 5, 1968 (UPI) -- President Johnson today led a horrified nation in praying for the recovery of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, who was critically wounded in an assassination attempt in Los Angeles. Lawmakers voiced fear "the world has gone mad."Johnson, who succeeded to the office of president when John F. Kennedy was slain before his eyes in Dallas four years ago, said "There are no words equal to the horror" of this newest tragedy.
Kennedy shot, condition extremely critical
LOS ANGELES, June 5, 1968 (UPI) - Sen. Robert F. Kennedy was shot in the head and neck and critically wounded early today as he left a jubilant primary election celebration. After nearly four hours of surgery, doctors said his condition was "extremely crA team of surgeons removed bullet fragments from his head but did not take out a bullet still lodged in his neck. Until the operation he was able to breathe only with assistance.
