New Zealand Defense Force pushing for bomb disposal recruits

By Andrew V. Pestano

WELLINGTON, New Zealand, March 16 (UPI) -- New Zealand's Defense Force is looking to hire members for their bomb disposal team to defend against explosive hazards.

Members could be deployed to domestic and overseas operations where they will be trained on how to disarm biological, chemical, radiological, nuclear and improvised explosive devices.

The job is "best suited to individuals who are mature, physically fit, highly motivated and have the ability to solve complex problems," articles in Defense Force publications state.

The Defense Force denied that the recruitment push is linked to the government's decision to send troops to Iraq to train local forces in the fight against the Islamic State.

The New Zealand Defense Force has been responsible of all explosive device disposals since 1999.
