Indian TV host Gauhar Khan slapped by audience member over 'short dress'

MUMBAI, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Indian police have arrested a 24-year-old man for slapping actress and television host Gauhar Khan during a taping of India's Raw Star reality competition on Sunday.

Officials said that the suspect, Akil Malik, started taunting Khan about her attire.

"Being a Muslim woman, she should not have worn such a short dress," he reportedly said.

A YouTube video of the incident appears to show staff members comforting a horrified Khan.

"A preliminary probe has revealed that someone from the audience started teasing Khan to which she protested," a police source told The Hindustan Times. "An argument ensued between Gauahar and the man who was teasing her. Things turned ugly when the man suddenly slapped the actor."

Malik was arrested and charged with assaulting a woman.

Khan has starred in several films and reality shows, including India's popular Big Boss 7, which she won in 2013.
