RIO DE JANEIRO, June 17 (UPI) -- U.S. Vice President Joe Biden cheered the U.S. men's national soccer team onto victory over Ghana at the World Cup match in Brazil on Monday.
After the U.S. beat Ghana in a 2-1 victory, the vice president visited the team in their locker room to congratulate them.
Biden joked with the team's head coach, Jürgen Klinsmann, that "He looked happier on that first goal" -- scored by Clint Dempsey in the first 32 seconds of the game -- "than when I won the election." The vice president praised the team, telling them, "You're spectacular!"
The vice president also took to Instagram and Twitter to express his pride, titling a photo in the locker room "One nation. One team. Keep making us proud, U.S. soccer!
