Coordinated car bombings strike Baghdad districts at rush hour, killing 25 people

BAGHDAD, May 13 (UPI) -- Twenty-five people were killed Tuesday and 80 others wounded in a coordinated attack in which eight cars laden with explosives detonated during morning rush hour in the north, east, and center of Baghdad.

Two of the car bombs exploded in a northeastern suburb of Sadr City, killing six and injuring 13. Two other car bombs in the nearby Baladiyat neighborhood killed three people. In Jamila, a car bomb killed three others. Five were killed in the northern district of Urr. Maamil in the east and Karrada in the center were also targeted with car bombs.

The coordinated attack coincides with the Shia-observed birthday of Imam Ali, the Prophet Mohammed's cousin and son-in-law.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for Tuesday's deadly bombings.
