Terror attacks in West Bank, doubled in 2013

ARIEL, Israel, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- There was a more than 50 percent jump in the number of terror attacks in the West Bank from 2012 to 2013, Israel's Shin Bet General Security Service said.

In 2013, there were 1,271 attacks in the region, up from 578 in 2012, the agency said. Of the attacks, 1,042 took place in the southern district of the West Bank Israel.

In 2013, six Israelis were killed in terror attacks, five of which occurred in the West Bank. In 2012, all 10 Israeli fatalities happened inside the green line, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Some 44 Israelis were injured in 2013 in terror attacks, down from 309 in 2012. Of the injuries in 2012, 269 happened during Operation Pillar of Defense.

Of the injuries in 2013, 78 percent were caused by rock-throwing or firebombing, Shin Bet said.

The report said Shin Bet arrested more than 2,500 terror suspects in 2013, most of them captured in the West Bank.
