STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- A Stockholm, Sweden, anti-racism rally Sunday drew 16,000 people, Swedish Television said, where a rally last week was marred by neo-Nazi violence.
Similar demonstrations were held Sunday in other Swedish cities, calling for an end to racism and not merely a repudiation of neo-Nazis, the news website TheLocal.se reported.
Police presence at the Stockholm event was heavy, police saying they would take "preventative measures" to ensure the demonstration would be more peaceful than last week's, when violence led to several arrests.
The protesters shouted "No to racism" and heard speeches from organizers of the country's Left party, Swedish Television said.
"I'm here to show my support for common people, families with children and for the right to move about in your own neighborhood," said Spanish tourist Efraim Olalla, who attended the rally.
