Morsi supporters, security forces clash at universities in Egypt

CAIRO, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Prosecutors ordered the 26 people arrested during clashes between supporters of ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi and security forces in Cairo be held.

The 26, arrested Wednesday during confrontations at al-Azhar University, were accused of gathering illegally, thuggery, destroying public property and weapons possession, Ahram Online reported Thursday.

The suspects include eight al-Azhar students.

Investigations have begun at the university where Morsi supporters stormed an administration building, Ahram Online said.

Police Thursday were on campus, scene of several protests since the new school year began two weeks ago.

Elsewhere, student clashes in the Nile Delta and Alexandria injured 26 people, Ahram Online said.

Officials said 17 were injured in confrontations at Zagazig University and five were hurt at clashes at Mansoura University. Most of the injuries were minor, heath officials said.

In Alexandria, four people were hurt in clashes between Morsi supporters and security forces at Alexandria University's School of Law.
