KABUL, Afghanistan, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Afghan insurgents attacked an international convoy Friday in Kabul and tried to breach a fortified compound, officials said.
An Afghan man and woman were killed in the suicide bombing of the convoy, The New York Times reported. The attack occurred outside Green Village, which houses U.S. contractors and European diplomats.

The assault was the first major one in the Afghan capital in several months. A Taliban spokesman said the group carried out the attack.
Residents of Green Village sheltered in bunkers after the fiery explosion. But the militants were unable to get into the guarded area.
Eight people were killed in Green Village in an attack in May 2012.
