NEW DELHI, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- India successfully tested its new nuclear-capable ballistic missile over the Indian Ocean Sunday, defense sources told Press Trust of India.
The Angi-V missile was launched without incident from a mobile launcher on Wheeler Island, the sources said.
Engineers will study data from radar and the missile's systems to determine exactly how well the long-range missile performed.
Sunday's launch was the second for the Angi-V. The first took place last year and was considered a success, PTI said.
The Angi-V has a range of up to 5,000 kilometers (3,106 miles) and can carry a warhead weighing more than one ton. The three-stage missile uses solid fuel and has engine, guidance and navigation upgrades from previous Angi models.
