5 detained after men threw stones at Jewish visitors at Temple Mount

JERUSALEM, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- A group of masked young men threw stones at officers and Jewish visitors Wednesday morning at the Temple Mount in Israel, police said.

Police stormed the scene after receiving a report about the incident, which was taking place near the al-Aqsa mosque, Ynetnews.com reported.

Authorities sprayed protesters with pepper spray and detained five people, the Ma'an news agency said.

No injuries were reported.

Police said they also stopped dozens of buses of Arab worshippers who were on their way to the Temple Mount who were allegedly intending to cause disturbances at the sacred site.

Tension has risen in recent weeks after radical Arabs have called for the banning of Jews at Temple Mount, Ynetnews.com said.
