PRETORIA, South Africa, June 28 (UPI) -- South African Olympic runner and murder suspect Oscar Pistorius has started training again, his family said.

Pistorius, a double amputee, is charged with murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp, Feb. 14. He said he shot her because he mistook her for an intruder.

While awaiting trial, Pistorius has started running again, CNN reported quoting a statement issued by his family.

"His focus at this time remains entirely on the court case," the family said Thursday. Spending time on the track is aimed at helping him "process his trauma and prepare for the trial."

Pistorius is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 19.
