KYZY, Russia, March 6 (UPI) -- Five bodies were recovered Wednesday from the site of an avalanche in southern Siberia that killed six teenage skiers, local authorities said.

The bodies of the five were being taken to search and rescue operation headquarters where relatives of the missing teens were waiting to identify them, The Moscow Times reported.

Seven teenagers were buried by snow in an avalanche Sunday on Ak-Bashtyg Mountain in the Tuva republic. One teen managed to escape and notify authorities.

Some 300 rescuers and volunteers searched for the teenagers until Tuesday when the search had to be abandoned because of hazardous weather conditions.

The search resumed on Wednesday morning.
