Van der Sloot to be extradited to U.S.

LIMA, April 23 (UPI) -- Peru has approved the extradition of Dutchman Joran Van der Sloot to the United States to face extortion charges, officials said.

Van der Sloot, the prime suspect in the disappearance of a missing U.S. teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba, allegedly told the teen's mother he would tell her the whereabouts of her body in exchange for $250,000, La Republica reported Monday.

The U.S. trial against Van der Sloot is set to begin in 2015.

If found guilty of extortion, Van der Sloot faces up to 25 years in prison, Radio France Internationale reported.

He is currently facing a prison sentence of 28 years in Peru for the murder of Stephany Flores in Peru.
