Montreal pet daycare lies about dog death

MONTREAL, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- About 15 people gathered in Montreal to protest the death of a Shih Tzu that was mauled to death by other dogs at a pet daycare, officials said.

The protest took place in front of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Saturday, near Montreal Dogs, where the mauling happened, The (Montreal) Gazette reported.

The owners of Montreal Dogs, siblings Mina and Cesare Carbone, allegedly told Peggy Ranger her Shih Tzu had escaped, sparking a week-long search for the small dog. The Ranger family put up posters offering a $5,000 reward for their pet Stanley.

The Carbones eventually came forward and told the Rangers that their dog was decapitated and partially eaten by other dogs at the daycare. They said they had lied to spare the feelings of the dog's owners.

Ranger's Shih Tzu was attacked by at least two other dogs while unattended.

She said she and her husband are considering a lawsuit against Montreal Dogs.

The dog daycare is also being sued by another woman, Nathalie Dettorre, who told The Gazette Montreal Dogs her cocker spaniel had run away two years ago. She is suing Montreal Dogs for $5,000.
