Many in France want to dump the euro

PARIS, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- More than a third of people queried in France would like to dump the euro and return to the franc, a poll revealed.

The Ipsos/Logica poll conducted for the association Lire la Societe found 36 percent of those questioned would like to have their old currency back, France's The Connection reported Tuesday.

In addition, 45 percent told pollsters the euro has handicapped the French economy while 62 percent said it limited their purchasing power.

Only 34 percent said the euro was an asset.

Pollsters found 37 percent of those queried said individual European countries should have more leeway in terms of budgetary policy.

There was no information on how many people were polled, when the poll was conducted and what the margin of error was.
