PARIS, July 4 (UPI) -- Former International Monetary Fund head Dominique Strauss-Kahn may face new sexual assault charges in France, a French lawyer said.
Attorney David Koubbi, representing the French writer Tristane Banon, said Banon will file a criminal complaint alleging attempted rape against Strauss-Kahn on Tuesday, CNN reported.
Strauss-Kahn, arrested in New York on suspicion of attempting to rape a hotel maid, was freed from house arrest last week after "serious issues" were raised about the credibility of his accuser, CNN said.
He resigned as head of the IMF.
Banon's mother, a member of the French Parliament, said her daughter had been attacked by Strauss-Kahn in 2002 but that she had discouraged her daughter from filing charges.
Mansouret said she advised her daughter not to file a police report at the time out of concern it would hurt her career as an aspiring journalist.
Some weeks ago Koubbi said he and Banon were considering whether to file a complaint in light of the New York charges against Strauss-Kahn.
